Summer Pro-Am is coming soon
Who:
this league is for women teams (and individual women that
choose to play) who are at the professional level, the
collegiate level and/or even the “high school starter with
college potential level” level. This Women’s Pro-Am Summer
league is actually planning on being the summer home for
collegiate players and even professional players. We plan to
run this league for years to come.
What: a basketball league that takes the best of 4 Point Play (a basketball league) and combines it with PortlandBasketball.Com- the world’s largest adult basketball league (225 team average with 8 seasons per year)- what a combination! In fact, this combination created the Best of the Best Women’s Semi-Pro seven-game series last summer (2010) and it went great; thus, this women’s pro-am league June of
2012.
When: Saturdays starting June 4th
2012. Almost every game would be on a Saturday with game times of 1:00pm, 2:30, 4:00pm and 5:30pm Optional: your team can preference to start on June 11th or even June 18th and you will still get all 7-games. The official dates of play (summer of
2012) are as follows: June 4, 11, 18, 25, 28, July 9, 16, 23, 30 (7 games over 9 weeks; this is great news- it means that you can select up to 2-weeks to not play if your team has conflicts on a Saturday).
Where:
games will be played at three locations in the Portland metro, to be announced, but about 50% of the games will occur at- Cascade College at 9101 East Burnside Street in Portland
Why: PortlandBasketball.Com runs great leagues and so by combining with 4-Point Play, this league will give women players a chance to stay sharp between professional seasons or between collegiate seasons and/or it will give some high school girls players a chance to play up.
Number of teams (8): we anticipate 8 teams and we will be limited to 8 teams; the teams we expect will probably fall into these categories: perhaps 1 or 2 high school teams, 5 to 6 collegiate and professional level teams composed of players from Oregon and SW Washington and 1 selected pro-am team from Seattle Washington.
Cost: cost is $455 per team for 7 games. If you do not have a team but you quality in terms of talent (send us your playing resume)- the cost for you as an individual would be $120 per player but you get to keep your uniform top and shorts (the team will have 10 players, uniforms provided a coach).
How to signup/register and put your down payment in: go to our web site www.PortlandBasketball.com and click on ‘register’ and enter your information and then pay $130 ($130 is the minimum amount we need in advance- from your team- to hold your team a spot in the league).
How to pay the balance off: after you pay this down payment to hold your team spot, email and text your teammates to go online and pay their share directly to the league. Try to pay almost all of this before your first game, all online. If you still have a balance by opening day, you can pay that directly to the lead official at your first game (restated- bring the money to the gym and pay the lead official at game 1).
Schedule: the schedule will always be posted on Monday morning for games- the next Saturday. This means that if you choose to play Saturday June 4 (2012), your schedule will be online on May 30th.
Other notes for players:
• We will follow NCAA summer pro-am rules.
• Players are required at their first game to watch an NCAA video so your team needs to arrive one hour in advance so we can put you in a room to watch the video and to review the rules of the league.
• This league will be a spectator friendly league so we will have announcers, statistics, game day programs and your role in this would be to dress nice, show up one hour in advance of your game, wear professional level uniforms and warm up with intention.
• Coaches must wear dress slacks and professional attire (polo or dress shirts).
• The Seattle team will travel down to Portland three times, while Portland teams will be expected to travel to Seattle for 1 game per season. This will not require overnight costs; this could simply be a day trip where you drive up to Seattle that morning, play in the early evening and drive back that same night.
• Each team in this league may play one non-Saturday game within their schedule- this would be against the Portland Energy on a weeknight as the Portland Energy plays adjacent to the Oregon Waves games (a men’s team that plays in the International Basketball League). Your team will be given ample notice for any non-Saturday games (ample notice- meaning at least 10 full days).
• Stay tuned to this web site each week as we add more details every Friday as we get them; in fact, we plan to name the first three teams on the site by next Friday February 11th.
