1st Annual Masters Tournament

January 21-22, 2012

Who: teams in the Masters category (all players need to be 35 plus. One exception is this—you can have 1 player maximum between 30 and 34 years old but there must be at least 1 players over the age of 40 an the player between 30 and 34 must sit 10 minutes of each game minimum. This tournament is limited to eight teams. Note: one of the teams will be comprised of nine individual players—this team will be provided a coach and uniforms (the cost is $55 per individual).

What: basketball tournament where teams will play 3 games on Saturday and up to 1 game on Sunday.

When: Saturday January 21st (tournament starts with teams first game at either 9am,10am, 11am or Noon) and teams will play 3-games on that Saturday spread out with breaks between most games. The latest you would play is Sunday January 21st, 2013 at 1pm tip-off. Restated for out of town players—this tournament will be done by 3pm so everyone can fly home that Sunday night

Where: Pearl Courts in Portland (a beautiful city and a great place to bring the family/spouse)

Why: Portland is a great city with great restaurants and the gym we are playing in is in the Pearl District of NW/downtown Portland where there are many great restaurants. Basketball players bringing wives and/or family will really have a good time at this tournament. In fact, the court we are playing at—is located in the same building as a kids playground business called- PlayDatePDX (web site www.pdplaydate.com); PlayDatePDX serves food and it is a really nice place to take kids (nice for parents). IN other words if you bring someone with you, they will really enjoy this tournament location. The basketball facility (www.pdxcourts.com) is 84 feet in length which is perfect for master’s level players. The facility has showers on site so you can play and join up with your family who will be out and about (all walking distance) having a good time.

Format: You will play 3 games guaranteed on Saturday (first game is a seeding game, second game is a single elimination 8-team tournament game and your third game is either a consolation game to end the tournament or it is a game in the final 4 as you advance forward). On Sunday, the winners of the final four will be the only teams to move on—and this Championship game will be at 1pm on Sunday (all teams flying in can get back on Sunday)

Who is expected to attend: teams from Seattle and Portland Oregon will participate because they are hosting the tournament and between the two leagues on any given season they run with 600 teams so the host assures that all 8 spots will fill and that this tournament will not cancel. The Rocky Mountain Basketball League will attend this tournament—sending referees and most likely one team as well. Schedule:

    • Friday: there will be a reception Friday night at Pearl Courts 8:30pm- 9:15pm, a shoot-around and a chance to grab your schedule. This is optional. If you cannot come to this, you can text the director at 8:30pm to find out your game time.
    • Saturday: teams play 3 games of 32-minutes each to where they only have 1 game left on Sunday (if in the Championship). All teams are expected to be ready to play at 9am.
    • Sunday: only the 2 teams in the championship will play (game at 1pm)
